Codex: Reimagining the Book as Space and Narrative
This immersive group exhibition features artists Danny Aldred (UK), Alexine Chanel (FR), and Gary Winters (UK), who offer new perspectives on the intersection of books, storytelling, and memory. Their works, through visual, immersive, and performance-driven mediums, examine how narratives expand beyond written pages into both physical and emotional realms.
Danny Aldred’s Misaligned Timelines and Submerged Book Covers combine archival photographs, AI landscapes, and vintage book covers to craft speculative stories that transcend time. His fragmented, painted covers evoke the fluidity of memory and the evolving nature of narrative.
Alexine Chanel’s LIT HOUSE invites visitors to physically immerse themselves in literary worlds, transforming Wuthering Heights into a delicate paper shelter that evokes the haunting moors, bringing the novel’s landscape to life in a sensory experience.
Gary Winters’ Compounded Words and Shredded series disrupt conventional book structures, using tools like printers and shredders to reconstruct text, questioning the integrity and meaning of the written form.
This show will include a live event for World Book Day on Thursday 6th March.
