Join author and journalist Hannah Marsh for an intimate writing workshop exploring how myth and folklore weave through contemporary culture. To mark the paperback release of her bestselling book, Thread: A Caesarean Story of Myth, Magic & Medicine, Hannah invites you to discover how ancient tales and legendary characters can help us make sense of our modern experiences.
Together, we will delve into stories and meet fascinating figures from history and folklore, considering what they illuminate about our own lives. This session is designed to help you weave myth and memoir together to tell powerful, personal stories.
Following the workshop, Hannah will be available in the Field System shop to sign copies of her book from about 3.30pm.
About the Book: Thread
In 2017, after thirty hours of induced labour, Hannah Marsh underwent an emergency caesarean section—a process she was neither physically nor emotionally prepared for. In an attempt to heal, she began to interrogate why the words "caesarean section" so often evoke feelings of doubt or shame rather than the "ecstatic tones" reserved for natural birth.Working through history, culture, and folklore, Hannah uncovered pioneering voices and forgotten tales. Thread is an unflinching yet compassionate examination of a procedure that is far more than just surgery; it is a story of feminine power and medical history woven with the arc of her own experience.
About the Author
Hannah Marsh is a journalist and author who lives between the moor and the sea in south Devon. She is fascinated by themes of place and belonging, identity and community, and the quieter, more obscured voices from history and folklore.
