In this solo exhibition, artist Ruby Bateman journeys through the passion of motherhood, and honours the implicit memory and wisdom of prenates. Using Jungian and psychotherapy philosophies, she explores the shadowy world of the unconscious, and the experience of womb and birth, reflecting both personally and as a collective.
This series of drawings and paintings are deeply soulful, sharing encounters with loss and grief, but also tender gratitude and joy. Ruby Bateman is a visual artist working from her home studio in the South West Countryside.
Ruby’s practice is deeply heartfelt; creating from a place of sincerity and only selecting materials that are natural and non-toxic for her paintings and drawings. With a richly colourful and symbolic visual language, her work often visits the ‘underworld’ of loss, grief, implicit memory and somatic wisdom. Finding medicine in plants, nature, ritual and shared vulnerability. Her paintin carefully interweaves her passion and curiosity in Jungian and psychotherapy philosophies, folklore, mythology, ancestral stories, maternal politics, the esoteric and the expansive work of William Blake into her artwork. These are rich resources for her, containing whilst also expanding her sense of self. For Ruby, the experience of art making is an essential relationship with the self and connection to a deeper material consciousness.
Join us to celebrate the opening of this new exhibition on Thursday 3rd September, 6-8pm
